Ingredients :

25% NaClO2 (between 23 and 25%) (sodium chlorite)

HCl 4% (hydrochloric acid) or in the absence of HCl take Citric Acid 50%

1 airtight glass jar of about 700ml

1 small glass

1 syringe of 10ml or 1 measuring glass of 5ml to 20ml approximately

Amber tinted glass containers with plastic (not metal) or laboratory grade plastic caps of approximately 100ml to store the finished CDS O.3% product.


Preparation :

Day 1:

Fill the jar with 500ml of distilled water (or mineral water).

In the small glass, add 5ml of 25% NaClO2 + 5ml of 4% HCl (or 50% Citric Acid instead)

Place the small glass in the jar filled with water so that the glass protrudes at least 1cm from the surface of the water.

Close the jar and store in a sunny and ventilated place for 12 hours (12 to 24 hours).

Day 2:

After this time, the liquid is yellowish in the 2 containers.

Open the jar (quickly close tightly) then remove the contents of the small glass and keep it in a separate bottle, it will serve as a household disinfectant (do not breathe the gas from this residue). The liquid remaining in the large jar therefore now has a concentration of 1500ppm (part part million) or 0.5%. It is therefore necessary to redo a concentration to have 3%.

In the small glass, add 5ml of 25% NaClO2 + 5ml of 4% HCl (or Citric Acid 50% instead)

Quickly open the jar and place the small glass in the jar filled with distilled (or mineral) water so that the glass protrudes at least 1cm from the surface of the water.

Quickly close the jar and store in a sunny and ventilated place for 12 hours (12 to 24 hours).

Open the jar 12 hours later (quickly close it tightly) and remove the contents of the small glass and keep it in a separate bottle as a disinfectant. The liquid remaining in the large jar therefore now has a CDS concentration of 3000ppm, or 0.3%. The color will be like that of sunflower oil.


Once activated, the CDS 0.3% solution (chlorine dioxide) should be stored in a cold place (<11 ° C, refrigerator) for a maximum of 8 days.


If CDS bottles are vacuum-packed, dry in a UV-free area, it will keep for approximately 6 to 9 months before opening. After opening, it should be used at this time, kept cool for 8 days only.

6. Package the CDS in small 100ml tinted glass or blackout laboratory plastic containers (no metal caps!) To keep the concentration intact for months before use.


A 21d cure for 1 person is equivalent to approximately 250ml of 0.3% CDS.
